He volunteered to land Peter in a severe gale off Bjorko island when the Emperor was required ashore.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>December 1713<\/strong>\u00a0Admiral Ivan Senyavin (? \u2013 1726) took Delapp it to the Russian service. This was probably in Reval (Tallinn), as Senyavin was there in 1713-1714.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>14 May\u00a01714<\/strong>. Delapp became a lieutenant.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">In\u00a0<strong>September 1714<\/strong>,\u00a0 Delap came to the notice of Peter the Great<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>1717<\/strong>. Delapp sailed on the ship \u00ab<strong><em>Ingermanland<\/em><\/strong>\u00bb.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He was given command of the pink \u00ab<strong><em>Prince Alexander<\/em><\/strong>\u00bb in\u00a0<strong>1718<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He was given command of the ship \u00ab<strong><em>Yagudiil<\/em><\/strong>\u00bb in\u00a0<strong>1719<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He was given command of the\u00a0<em><strong>Ezekiel<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>1719,<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">the\u00a0<em><strong>Randolph<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(52 guns) in\u00a0<strong>1721.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He was given command of the ship\u00a0 \u00ab<strong><em>Neptun<\/em><\/strong>\u00bb in\u00a0<strong>1723.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Delapp\u00a0 took an exam at the naval officers, together with Vitus Bering.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He was given command of the ship\u00a0 \u00ab<em><strong>Moskva<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(64)\u00bb in\u00a0<strong>1725<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong><em>Fridemaker<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(90) in\u00a0<strong>1728<\/strong>\u00a0and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><em><strong>Schluesselburg<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(64) in\u00a0<strong>1729<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The fleet fell into neglect and British\u00a0 officers were out of favour after the death of Peter the Great in\u00a0<strong>1725<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">At the height of the war with Sweden and took part in an engagement that saw the capture of three Swedish ships of the line.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Delap resigned on 14-7-<strong>1729<\/strong>\u00a0after 16 years service and left Russia leaving no account of his experiences there.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">There seems to be no further information on this man though research for a thesis in Russia by Andrey Epatko is ongoing<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Delap had as companions in the Russian Navy several other Irishmen Admiral Kennedy, , Denny, Foley, Kane, Admiral Lacy (1678-1751) from Kiltedy Co Limerick.
